Happy New Year and Welcome to 2025
The January issue of Denver Urban Spectrum acknowledges the impact of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 56 years after the loss of the civil rights leader, we pay tribute to his lasting legacy as a torchbearer for social justice and equity.
Oftentimes, the word “equity” is confused with “equality;” but where equality provides the same resources under the assumption that we are all starting from the same point, equity recognizes the challenges faced by communities of color resulting from centuries-long oppression. Equitable conditions exist when individuals are provided with the specific resources needed to reach an equal outcome.
This month, we recognize several individuals and entities throughout Colorado striving to reach King’s dream of equality through work that promotes racial and systemic equity.
