All-Mail Election For Denver This November
Denver Clerk and Recorder Stephanie O’Malley announced that the November 3 Coordinated Election will be conducted by mail.

“With every city agency seeking ways to save money during these tough economic times I’ve decided that an all-mail ballot election makes the most sense,” O’Malley said. “I also solicited feedback from our Elections Model Advisory Committee and members concur that given Denver’s current economic condition, this would be the best solution for 2009.”

Conducting a mail ballot election will cost less than a polling place election. The November 3 election ballot will contain school board races and, potentially, initiated ordinances.

Denver voters can assist the Denver Elections Division’s preparation for this mail ballot election by making sure that the address information on their voter record is correct. To check their record, voters can go the Colorado Secretary of State elections Web site at www.sos.state.co.us, and click on “Verify Your Voter/Ballot Status” or call 311.

Under a recent change in state law, ballots will be mailed to voters starting 22 days prior to the election instead of 30 days prior to the election as in past years.

In 2008, 174,600 Denver voters voted by mail out of 278,224 ballots cast.

Angela Williams Of Stapleton Runs For House District 7
Last month, Angela Williams announced her candidacy for State Representative District 7 in Stapleton’s Founder’s Green. “This is not about me, it is about us. I believe we can work together and grow our district so it thrives even more. We have so much talent that lives in District 7 that nothing is impossible,” said Williams.

Williams was accompanied on stage and endorsed by Denver City Councilman Michael Hancock, Denver City Councilwoman Carol Boigon, Veteran and Attorney Jason Crow, Neighborhood Activist, Alice Kelly, GLBT Community Activist Tea Shook, Family Education Liaison with DPS Pam Guerrera, Green Valley Resident Richard Rhodes, Stapleton Resident Steve Lawrence, UFCW #7 Representative, Crisanta Duran, and State Representative Speaker of the House, Terrance Carroll.

Williams vowed to make Education a priority, “I am running for legislature to support education K through 12 and beyond. I will collaborate and fight for funding for our schools and I will be an advocate for innovation and reform.”  Williams also promised to open a community office, “I will ask our State Senator, our RTD Representative, School Board Members, and City Council Members to share an office so that we can work closer and give the community a one-stop process.”

Angela Williams is a resident of Stapleton and small-business owner in North Field of Stapleton.

Alton Clark To Run For DPS District 4 School Board Seat
Alton Clark has officially announced his bid to run the Denver Public School District 4 school board seat.

“I have decided to run for the Denver school board position being vacated by Kevin Patterson in November 2009” says Clark. “I feel I could bring a fresh set of eyes, positive direction and real focus on our community needs.”

“I value public education in the sense of providing the best possible education for our children to become responsible citizens in this great nation. I am a product of the Denver public school system in a much earlier time, where my parents held me responsible for my education, and ensured that I received it. In this time of change in DPS I feel we need to focus on: parental interests, student responsibility, teacher responsibility, and a system that works for the good of the student and faculty in Denver Public Schools.”

Clark is the Associate Director for the Veterans Upward Bound Program, a federally funded program (TRiO) through The Department of Education. He also works part-time as an addictions counselor for CACIII (Certified Addictions Counselor III). He volunteers with many other organizations working with children and youth.
