Annual BaoBao Festival
The
6th Annual BaoBao Festival presents a vibrant performance of traditional West African
dance, drumming, music and storytelling March 5-7 in Boulder and Denver. Former
members of the Ghana National Dance Ensemble will perform and host a night of
performances by the Boulder Pan African Ensemble, Streetside Hip Hop Dance Troupe
and more.

An Arthritis Program Instructor
The
Arthritis Foundation, Rocky Mountain Chapter, will be hosting a one-and-a-half
day exercise instructor training March 20 and 21 at the Jewish Community
Center. The Arthritis Foundation provides an aquatic program and an exercise program
designed for people with arthritis and related conditions. Swimming is not a pre-requisite
for the program.

Volunteers
Needed For The 2009 Denver Green Festival
The
2009 Denver Green Festival is looking for 1,000 volunteers for the festival on
May 2 and 3. Volunteers will receive free admission, an organic cotton t-shirt
and free memberships. Green Festival is a 2 day event coproduced
by
Global Exchange and Green America that is committed to the movement towards a
just and sustainable society, featuring over 300 socially and environmentally
responsible enterprises, over 150 leading speakers, live music, and organic food and drink.

For Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Womanhood Luncheon
Zeta
Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. – Xi Kappa Zeta Chapter will host its annual Finer Womanhood
& Scholarship Awards Luncheon on Saturday, May 9 at Giuseppe’s Old Depot
from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Five awards will be presented at this event in
addition to the Soaring Dove Foundation’s Cynthia Gayles Memorial Scholarship.
These awards include: Community Service Award, Excellence in Education Award,
Finer Woman of the Year Award, Hero Award and Virtuous Woman Award.
The
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority will be accepting nominations for awards until April 14.

Geoffrey Canada To Speak At 2nd Annual UTP Conference
Metropolitan State College of Denver’s Urban Teaching Partnership (UTP)
will feature Geoffrey Canada, CEO of Harlem Children’s Zone, as the keynote
speaker for the 2nd Annual Great Teachers for Our City Schools: National Summit
on Recruiting, Preparing and Retaining Quality Urban Teachers, April 1-3. Canada
is nationally recognized for his pioneering work with helping children and
families in Harlem.
UTP, a collaborative effort of Metro State, Denver Public Schools (DPS)
and the Mayor’s Office for Education and Children, is designed to prepare and
support individuals who wish to make a commitment to teaching in high-needs urban
schools. The national summit is a key component of UTP and provides a venue for
examining innovative teacher preparation models and sharing strategies that
support teaching and learning in high poverty urban schools.
