Well, we didn’t travel to Kansas to see the wizard but it
sure has been a journey. Like Dorothy, and along the way, we experienced fear,
saw weaknesses, grew on strengths, and discovered the importance of kinship.
Now we invite you to share our journey by joining the Denver
Urban Spectrum for Time Travel.
About two weeks ago, my friend Sid Wilson called and asked, “What
is this? Is it a trip? I’ve seen
this several times so tell me, what’s going on?”
So for Sid and everyone else, here is the scoop (no pun
intended).
This month, the Denver
Urban Spectrum entered its 22nd year of contributing to the community
through spreading the news about people of color: our issues, events, ideas,
and plans for a better future. I have to admit – accomplishing this goal hasn't
been easy in recent months. The realities of the changing newspaper business
and consumer reading patterns as well as shifting ad revenues have challenged
us, along with all other periodicals, to develop new ways of handling our
resources.
Our staff and supporters have been working hard to come up
with new business areas and advertising options, as well as diversified, more
interactive content – especially through our Web site. Richard Rhodes of RNR
Design has been leading our Web site redesign, while Eileen Anderson of Angel
Baby Productions has been assisting with our video production.
As we have been your community newspaper for the last two
decades, we now want to be your community Web site as we Connect People 2
People for decades to come. What you have come to know and love in or print
publication, you will receive that and more with our online version at our new
address: www.DenverUrbanSpectrum.com.
We will have bloggers from social issues to health to
technology. We will have a social
network. You now can be connected
to your friends and family around the world. We will be interactive – striving to keep you connected.
Firstly, for everyone who has an e-mail address, we invite
you to join us as a subscriber to our online club. As a subscriber, you will
receive our new E-newsletter, E-alerts, see what’s going on by viewing our
calendar of events, and receive notices on free and discount tickets to events
around town, and last but not least - hot-off-the-press news –all absolutely free!
And if you want a little more, we invite you to become a
member and receive additional benefits. Membership benefits range from posting
events on the calendar to free or discounted advertising, from Web site
advertising and Web site links to being included in our extensive Community
Directory and Resource Guide. And
for the daring and courageous, now you can share your business via video in our
new and innovative directory.
During the launch party, you will be able to take pleasure
in viewing our Digital Advertising Guide, see our Who’s Who Around Town Photo
Gallery, look at art from our Multi-Ethnic Art Gallery, and more.
So, time is moving fast and need not be wasted. If you are an individual, business
owner, nonprofit organization or corporation – we have something for you and
invite you to join us on this journey.
And the party? Time Travel will be held Sunday, April 20 from 2 to 6 p.m. at
the Improv Comedy Club and Dinner Theater, located in Northfield @ Stapleton. You will be entertained by Denver’s own
comedian Louis Johnson and R&B vocalist Terry Black. If you subscribe before April 15 by
sending your e-mail address to TimeTravel@urbanspectrum.net – tickets are only
$10. If you subscribe at the door,
tickets are $15 and if you don’t subscribe and just want to come for the fun, entertainment
and food – tickets are only $21!
So, don’t delay.
Be a part of the launch party.
Become a member before April 15 and display your business in the Digital
Advertising Guide before millions of people. If you are an artist, get your work out before the
world. If you have a message to
tell, we have the means to tell it.
Now is the time to go global. Our special inaugural rates won’t last forever. As a matter of fact, when I click my
heels together three times on April 20 – poof, they will be gone forever.
Readers and Visitors and Bloggers – Oh My! See you at Time Travel!
