8 Rivers Modern Caribbean Restaurant Heats Up LoDo With New Location

Named “Best of Denver, 2008” by Westword Magazine and “Top of the Town, 2007” by 5280, the owners of 8 Rivers Modern Caribbean Restaurant are proud to announce their second location in downtown Denver. The new location seat 100 people, has a bar with one of the best rum selections in Denver, a lounge area with a fireplace and a great mural of Bob Marley.

8 Rivers - LoDo opened on Oct. 1 at 1550 Blake St. in Lower Downtown (LoDo), the fourth restaurant the couple has opened.  Their first restaurant, The Jamaican Café, was a Santa Monica, California favorite for locals and celebrities.  After catering for Michael Keaton, DreamWorks executive David Geffen, actor and activist Woody Harrelson and many others, the beach restaurant was named “Best of LA” by the LA Weekly for over five years. In 2006, Chef Scott Durrah was thrilled to bring his love of the Caribbean to Denver.

The Highland Square location (32nd Ave. and Lowell) opened on June 1, 2006 to great reviews.  In one year, 8 Rivers was called one of Denver’s “New and Notable” restaurants by City Search and “Top of the Town” by 5280.  This year, 8 Rivers was awarded “The Best of Denver” by Westword Magazine.

“I could not be more pleased with our new location,” stated Chef Scott Durrah. “Opening in the hippest part of Denver will invite more people to share in the passion I have for the islands, their flavorful food, tropical rum drinks and its laid back attitude towards life.”

Wanda James, Durrah’s wife and business partner, is equally excited about the opportunities of the LoDo location. James is active in Colorado’s political structure, working to get progressive candidates elected from Colorado Springs to Boulder. He served on Barack Obama’s Colorado and National Finance Team.

“This is a great time for us, to have the two things we love, restaurants and politics, come together in one place. This is more fun than you can possibly imagine.”
